PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES
In the Fall of 2015, the historic Sheringham Point Lighthouse and its surrounding lands were transferred by the Government of Canada to the care and management of the Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society.
In taking on that responsibility, on behalf of the community, the Society committed to several objectives:
Heritage Restoration
- To restore the historic structures and key features at the site, in accordance with the best heritage conservation practices, and to maintain the structures in sound condition and good working order.

A Community Park
- To open the site as a passive community park, where visitors can safely and effectively enjoy and appreciate both the natural environment and their community heritage.

Telling the Lighthouse Story
- To develop educational and interpretive materials and programs, and to provide opportunities for the public to learn about and appreciate the Lighthouse and its history. This includes specific programs targeted for children. It also includes the collection and management of artifacts and archival materials associated with the Lighthouse.

Engaging the Community
- To engage as many people as possible in directly helping to protect and conserve the Lighthouse and its grounds, to help build and maintain public access to the site, and to help spread the Lighthouse’s stories. This objective is achieved by building membership and volunteer programs, and by creating special events and activities that provide the opportunities for the public to get involved.
